Exploring the Artistry and Technical Precision Behind the Award-Winning Portrait

The inspiration for "Violet Lips" came from the vibrant, colorful world of nightclubs, where women often wear heavier makeup. JUNG, known for his collaborations with makeup artists and fashion models, wanted to create a beauty portrait that would stand out and promote his website. He teamed up with makeup artist Bianca Duarte, who played a crucial role in bringing the concept to life.

"Violet Lips" is not just a portrait, but a testament to JUNG's skills in beauty photography. The image, featuring model Daniela Juchen, showcases a unique style of creation that demands highly accurate photography knowledge and the ability to collaborate with makeup artists. The result is a natural-looking photograph that avoids the over-retouched, artificial look often seen in advertising images.

The portrait was realized using professional studio lighting and a very technical makeup and hair art. Soft light was used for the model's face, while hard colored backlights created a vivid contrast with the dark background. The main light was a strobe with an octa softbox, and the backlights were two strobes with parabolic reflectors and colored gel filters. The image was shot using a Canon 5D Mark II camera and Canon 24-105mm f4 lens. Processing and retouching were done on Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.

Research played a significant role in the creation of "Violet Lips". JUNG and his team conducted extensive research on high-impact makeup types, skin and hair tones, gel filter colors, and even the lighting styles of famous nightclubs around the world. The selection of the model was a challenge, with dozens of models analyzed before finding the perfect fit. Precise positioning was also crucial to ensure the backlights touched the model's hair and body without reaching the front part of the face.

"Violet Lips" has been the opening image of JUNG's website since 2017, representing his style and skill in beauty photography. The portrait won the Silver A' Photography and Photo Manipulation Design Award in 2018, a testament to its outstanding technical characteristics and artistic skill. The copyrights for "Violet Lips" belong to JUNG, further cementing his place as a master of beauty photography.
